Short story about Smitty's obsession with winning to the point that he will hurt the horse expected to win so the winner becomes his choice. Will he get away with it or loose everything he ever wanted?
Too short and two dimensional characters.
If you like classic noir stories, you'll enjoy this. The only problem I have with it is that is starts at the end of the story and goes back, and it kind of kills the tension. It's an interesting way of telling the story, but If it had started at chapter 3 and gone forward, there would be a lot more tension of not knowing what happens to these characters and I would have enjoyed it more. Still worth the money though.
Horse Two by Anita Dime is a noir crime fiction short. Currently available only as an e-book, this nine-chapter gallop explodes out of the gates, Anita's first stab at noir. She's a gifted writer, fitting in the genre with enough imitation to be recognizable without regurgitation-her voice and style completely her own. I was grateful for her confident prose; it's unapologetic and real, and never winks at the audience in an amateur sort of way. We're never reminded that we're reading noir, and the story is devoid of dross `filler' garbage that clutters so many failed attempts from others.
